P r e a m b l e

Dear Reader,

I have spent a good amount of time planning how I would introduce a magazine such as this to people such as you. I am relieved that I will not burden you with those highly elaborated notions. In a sudden, bracing instant, they evinced ethereal, unattached as they were to any particular publication.

But the very first article of the very first issue has just been posted. So here is my introduction to the magazine in simple, specific form:

Supplement St. Louis exists to discover, explore and present our region — its people, places, things and phenomena – in deep and truthful ways.

Supplement St. Louis will also present national and worldwide topics that demonstrate strong connections to our area.

C’est tout.

My fantasized letters of introduction had referenced an amalgam of magazines, books and newspapers to describe the essence of what the new publication would do. But there is no need: You now have the first example before you.

Your editor,

Gabriel Shapiro
